Chamoli: Officials on Sunday continued demolition work in areas affected by land subsidence in Uttarakhand’s Joshimath. They have identified 863 houses that have developed cracks.

Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana inspected the identified land on the spot in Dhak village of Joshimath in Chamoli district on Saturday.

So far, the district administration has identified 863 buildings that have developed cracks due to the subsidence in the Joshimath town area. According to DM, out of this, 181 buildings have been kept in the unsafe zone.

Joshimath, on the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway (NH 7), is an overnight stop for people visiting the holy shrines of Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib and tourist destinations Auli and Valley of Flowers. But tourism here has suffered a setback due to this incident.
