Mumbai: Previous Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry was on Sunday killed in a road accident after his vehicle hit a divider in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, said the police.
As per the police, the vehicle, a Mercedes, collided with a divider close to Charoti on a bridge around 3.15 pm. There were four individuals in the vehicle, of which two, including Mistry, passed on the spot. The other deceased person has been recognized as Jahangir Binshah Pandole.
Those injured have been recognized as Dr. Anahita Pandole, a top gynaecologist at Breach Candy Hospital, and her husband Darius Pandole, the managing director and CEO of JM Financial Private Equity. They have been admitted to the ICU of Rainbow emergency clinic in Vapi.
Mistry was going from Ahmedabad to Mumbai. As per the Police, Dr. Anahita Pandole was in the driver’s seat when the accident occurred.
As indicated by sources, Mistry was a family friend of the Pandoles. The Pandole siblings had lost their dad a fortnight prior, and Mistry and the other three had made a trip to Udvada in Gujarat for the last rituals, from where they were returning.
On finding out about the occurrence, Prime Minister tweeted: “The untimely demise of Shri Cyrus Mistry is shocking. He was a promising business leader who believed in India’s economic prowess. His passing away is a big loss to the world of commerce and industry. Condolences to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace.”
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde communicated his shock and said: “Mistry was not only a successful industrialist but a young and future-oriented individual too. We have lost a talented industrialist. His death is not only a loss for the Mistry family but India’s industrial sector as well. My heartfelt condolences on his demise.”
Tata sons chairman N Chandrasekaran said: “I am deeply saddened by the sudden and untimely demise of Cyrus Mistry. He had a passion for life and, tragically, he passed away at such a young age. My deepest condolences to his family in these difficult times”
